The Long Island Writing Project, located at Nassau Community College, has determined that the site's fairly unusual context (community college) makes it a potentially powerful contributor around the topic of college readiness:

One conversation that has been occurring more and more of late...is the question of what role the college can play with area schools in helping local high school graduates be better prepared for college.  The question of what does “college readiness” mean, and the large number of students who place into non-credit classes at Nassau, may be evolving into a possible LIWP moment.  The LIWP had an amazing year where we facilitated a Think Tank Institute along with designing and implementing a workshop series as a result of being a recipient of the High Needs SEED grant at the Uniondale high school. The LIWP continued to build site teacher leadership, offer workshops, writing retreats and continuity activities through the SEED teacher leadership grant monies.

Participants in the Think Tank applied and were accepted into the "organic" setting.
