SAN JOSE AREA WRITING PROJECT, KELLOGG FOUNDATION BUILD FAMILY LITERACY WITH ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS

Working with Valle Vista Elementary School children and their parents, San Jose Area Writing Project teacher consultants led a family literacy program in 2015 that included Saturday trips to local libraries, writing, drawing, games, and story-telling during after-school workshops, and modeling of the three text types of Common Core Writing at family nights that featured socializing and food.  The “Read with Me, Write with Me” program, for English Learners in kindergarten to third grade, was supported by a grant from the Kellogg Foundation.

Building off of lessons learned through work of the SEED grant, site leadership and TCs continue to revise and refine teaching demonstrations to support further work with lesson study demonstrations for continued PD work with area schools.

Our SEED work on PD has been a great opportunity for our site to hone its classroom demonstration process.
