PA PennLake WP Creates Leadership Opportunities for Local Teachers Through a Summer Mini Institute

Working with neagative views of professional development (and no luck recruiting for an Invitational Summer Institute), the PA PennLake WP offers an alternatives leadership and learning opportunity for local teachers. Their work with a local school through a SEED High Needs grant also led to the recruitment of two of the teachers to the Summer Leadership Mini Institute.  

 

NE Nebraska WP and Two Other States Collaborate to Offer a Professional Writing Retreat for Teachers

Teacher Consultants and facilitators from three states came together to support each other as writers in a professional writing retreat modeled after the NWP Professional Writing Retreat.

 

NE Nebraska WP's Social Justice Focused Leadership Institute Inspires Veteran Teacher Consultants

This 3-day leadership opportunity invited veteran Teacher Consultants to construct projects that would create departmental, building, or district-level change--and at the same time offer opportunities for continued leadership within the writing project.

 

NE Nebraska WP Inspires Teacher Activism Through an Advanced Institute

Nebraska secondary teachers engaged in work as teacher activists through an advanced institute duirng the summer of 2015--and got to put their new awareness and skills to work in a local school district.

The Activist Teaching institute explored the need for teacher activism through reading Dana Goldstein’s The Teacher Wars: A History of America’s Most Embattled Profession (Random House, 2014).  The main work of the institute was the development of individual action plans in each teacher’s specific school.  

 

SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA WRITING PROJECT NURTURES A HYBRID: ADVANCED INSTITUTE/WRITING RETREAT

Southern Louisiana Writing Project combined elements from the Invitational Summer Institute with their experience as sponsors of writing marathons to create “Writing in Good Company in New Orleans,” a SEED-funded Advanced Institute that attracted 60 participants.

NY Long Island Writing Project Prepares Workshop on Twitter's Impact

Site leaders from the Long Island Writing Project designed a workshop on how Twitter is transforming us as educators.  In preparation for the workshop, the facilitators, Kathy Sokolowski and Darshna Katwala, surveyed teacher-consultants, who then used the occasion as an opportunity to try out Twitter.  A teacher consultant, Mark Jackett, responded as follows:
