Laurie Carroll is a middle school librarian and 6th Grade Reading/English Language Arts teacher at Northwestern State University Middle Lab School. Laurie holds a Master of Arts degree in English with a concentration in Folklore & Southern Culture. Prior to entering the classroom, Laurie spent seventeen years teaching dance and working in Arts Administration promoting legendary Louisiana musicians such as Dr. John, Irma Thomas, Rockin’ Doopsie, Sammy Kershaw, and Marc Broussard. She has written articles for Louisiana Folklife, Louisiana Studies, and Voices of the American South: A Comprehensive Anthology of Southern Literature. While teaching reading and writing is a stark contrast from teaching dance classes and coordinating musicians, Laurie still finds time to throw in a little “Thriller” and lindy hop as the lessons allow.
